Danny Abesdris' Academic Policies

Student Help Time:
A copy of my schedule (including Student Help Time)
will be posted outside my office at the TEL building (RM 2101).

Attendance:
While formal attendance will not be taken,
regular attendance of lectures is highly recommended,
as most, if not all course material will be presented
in class. In addition, lecture-specific material may
be included on tests, quizzes, or assignments. If any
class is missed, it is your (the student's)
responsibility to acquire the notes from a fellow
classmate. Failing to attend a class which involves
an evaluation of some kind (i.e. quiz, test, etc.)
will result in a mark of 0 for that evaluation
unless a legitimate reason (which must include
proper validation) is provided. If a valid reason is
given, the missed evaluation will be given the
averaged score of other subsequent evaluation(s).

Reference Readings:
Reading the reference material for a particular
topic or concept prior to attending the lecture
ON THAT topic is recommended as it may help to
clarify or make more clear, the concept being discussed.
It may also allow students to better prepare questions
that may serve to clarify the material being covered,
especially if the topic/concept is of a particularly
confusing or difficult nature.

Labs: (IPC144 ONLY)
All students are required to attend the
Lab (Laboratory) portion of the course (where applicable).
Labs must be completed by each and every student and a
printout of each Lab must be handed in by the week
following completion of that Lab. The Laboratory classes
for IPC144 will be worth a total of 5% of the course.

Assignments:
Assignments are to be submitted by e-mail as follows:

1. e-mail must be sent to: danny.abesdris@senecacollege.ca
2. e-mail subject must be: your subject's course code and section + _AY
   where Y == your assignment number (1, 2, 3, etc).
   (eg. PRG155A_A1, IPC144B_A1, INT322D_A2, or BIF712A_A3, etc.)

3. e-mail must be sent from your MySeneca account
   (i.e. userid@myseneca.ca)
4. The body of the e-mail is to remain empty (no text or messages)
and you must attach all of the files as described in the assignment
   outline/requirements.

You may use any e-mail program to send your assignment, but it
is recommended that you use Seneca's "WebMail".

Also, all assignments must either contain a cover
page or comments at the beginning of the source program
which includes the following information:

Assignment Number
Subject Code and Section (eg. PRG155A, IPC144A, OOP244B, etc.)
Student Name
Student Number
Instructor Name
Due Date
Date Submitted

Student Oath:
All assignments must include the following statement:

"I declare that the attached assignment is wholly my own work in accordance
with Seneca Academic Policy. No part of this assignment has been copied
manually or electronically from any other source (including web sites) or
distributed to other students."

Name ________________________ Student ID _________________

All assignments must contain a statement(s)
of the nature of the problem being solved
(i.e. Purpose of the assignment). Assignments should
be well commented, and must be properly indented
according to the guidelines established in class
(i.e. a minimum of 3 spaces of indenting is
required for each new code block).

NOTE: *** All assignments must work according to the
specifications set forth in the assignment guidelines
to be eligible for a grade. Submitted assignments that
do not work will be penalized to a greater extent than
late assignments, so it is to your advantage to ensure
that programs meet the requirements before handing them
in (please see below).

Course Late penalty:

PRG155 ALL Assignments: 10% per business day late.

Assignments which must be resubmitted will be graded
out of a maximum mark of 50%.

IPC144 ALL Assignments: 10% per business day late.

Assignments which must be resubmitted will be graded
out of a maximum mark of 50%.

OOP244 1 letter grade if submitted within 1 week of
the due date, and 1 letter grade per day
	thereafter.

OOP344 1 letter grade per late period.
SCR821 1 letter grade per late period.
BIF702 1 letter grade per late period.
BIF704 1 letter grade per late period.
BIF712 1 letter grade per late period.
INT322 1 letter grade per late period.
INT522 1 letter grade per late period.
DSA555 1 letter grade per late period.

Tests & Quizzes:
Tests will be announced at least 1 week before
they are given and will not include material covered
in the preceding week. Quizzes will be given
throughout the course, may not be announced, and
will be worth up to 5% of the course.
Failing to attend a class which involves an
evaluation of some kind (i.e. quiz, test, etc.) will
result in a mark of 0 for that evaluation unless
a legitimate reason (which must include
proper validation) is provided. If a valid
reason is given, the missed evaluation will
be given the averaged score of other
subsequent evaluation(s).

Cheating:
All students must do their own work on assignments,
quizzes, tests, etc. Any student submitting work which
is not their own will be subject to the school's
policy on cheating. This normally results in a grade
of 'F' for the submitted work on a first offence, and
possible expulsion from the school on subsequent
offences. A record of the incident will also be made
a part of the student's permanent file at the college.
A word of advice here:
"Cheating not only violates academic policy,
but deprives you, the student, of the opportunity
to explore your true potential as well as enlighten
yourself in the learning experience being offered.
It is ultimately self-defeating as a means of
bettering oneself. In fact, it is ALWAYS preferable
to fail with HONOUR, than to succeed in DISGRACE!"

In closing, I would like to add that it is my
sincere hope that each of you succeed in your
endeavours this semester. I have no doubt but that
each of you is capable of achieving what you set
out to accomplish provided you are willing to put
in the effort and hard work.

Always remember:
"Success is 10% inspiration and 90% perspiration!"
